Edmond Dantès, a 22-year-old sailor, arrives in Marseille to become engaged to Mercédès Herrera and become a captain. Betrayed by jealous friends, he is denounced as a Bonapartist conspirator and locked up in the Château d'If. After fourteen years in prison, he escaped and took possession of a treasure hidden on the island of Montecristo. He takes revenge on all those who falsely accused him.
The film was presented “out of competition” at the Cannes Film Festival 2024. Warmly received by critics, it is also a huge commercial success, attracting over 9.2 million spectators to French cinemas.
